Trudy Chalmers

Founder, Artistic Director

Vancouver-born soprano Trudy Chalmers divides her time between producing operas and concerts, arts and academic administration, and teaching singing. Trudy is the founding artistic director of Opera Lirica (formerly Opera Opulenza), and serves on Burnaby Lyric Opera’s Board of Directors. She has a passion for community engagement and leads a community opera chorus, opera related workshops for seniors, opera camps for kids, and salon socials. Trudy majored in voice at Capilano University. With Opera Opulenza she produced and directed Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana in 2016 and Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann at the York Theatre in 2017 and with City Opera Vancouver she produced Poulenc’s opera The Human Voice in 2021, Jake Heggie’s opera At the Statue of Venus in 2021, and Madeleine Thien, Alice Ping Yee Ho and Paul Yee’s opera Chinatown in 2022. Trudy also produces a free outdoor summer concert series at Oak Park.

Roger Parton

Music Director, Vocal Coach, Pianist

Roger Parton studied composition under Wolfgang Bottenberg (Concordia University) and piano with Laurie Altman (Concordia University) and Joseph Bayer. In demand as an accompanist and vocal coach across the Lower Mainland, he has been involved in many productions and concerts to date, including City Opera Vancouver’s Lost Operas of Mozart, Missing, Nigredo Hotel, and The Human Voice; Burnaby Lyric Opera’s concert series; and Opera Opulenza’s Tales of Hoffmann and Cavalleria Rusticana. His work as a contributor, arranger, and music editor includes City Opera Vancouver’s Berlin: The Last Cabaret, and Chinatown, by Alice Ping Yee Ho and Madeleine Thien. He serves on the Board of Directors of Müzewest Concerts.
